Frequently Asked Questions

  • We offer a range of monthly classes, both on Zoom and in-studio, with no audition required. To get started, simply complete our online application and upload your resume, headshot, and any relevant video materials (like a reel or self-tapes). Matt will carefully review your submission and get back to you within a few days with personalized recommendations for the class that best suits your goals. If you're interested in taking multiple classes, just let us know in your application, and we'll provide you with additional options.

  • At the moment, all of our classes are being held in-person at our Stanmore studio in Sydney. Be sure to check our class schedule for more details and to find the perfect class that aligns with your interests and availability.

  • Our ongoing classes are priced at $350 per month (4 classes per month). We also offer various discounts for purchasing multiple months in advance. Be sure to inquire about these options when you apply!

  • Class sizes range from 12 to 16 actors, ensuring that everyone has ample opportunity to participate. This setup guarantees that each actor works at least one scene per class, and often more!

  • The materials for each class are drawn from a diverse range of sources and are updated regularly. Scenes may be selected from a curated list provided by the Studio, or you’re welcome to bring in your own scenes or even write your own. Actors in our Ongoing classes also have exclusive access to our Scene Library, which includes hundreds of scripts and scenes available for use in class.

  • In some classes, depending on the week’s focus and the teacher’s discretion, scenes, audition work, original pieces, or other exercises may be recorded. These recordings are uploaded to a personal DRIVE folder for you to access and review outside of class. You’ll receive a private link to your folder, typically within 48 hours after the class.

  • We understand that some actors prefer to prepare in advance, while others enjoy a more spontaneous approach. To cater to both styles, we offer a variety of classes. Some require you to choose scenes or prepare material ahead of time, while others need no preparation at all. In general, we recommend against rehearsing scenes outside of class—unless it's material you've written or workshopped for a specific project. This helps create a more organic and dynamic learning experience in class.

  • Our audition classes focus on both the technical and emotional aspects of auditioning, especially in today’s virtual world where auditions, callbacks, and table reads often happen on Zoom or similar platforms. We help you manage the emotional prep and pressure of the process, as well as the practical skills needed for auditions or self-tapes. Our goal is to bring you back to the core of your work—the specific choices, bold personal connections, and heart of your performance—that truly impact the casting team. When you focus on these elements, your auditions become more collaborative and successful, no matter how they're being viewed.

  • As a theatre actor making the transition to on-camera work, it’s important to remember that truth-telling is at the heart of both mediums. At our studio, we offer both in-person and virtual classes where you can practice auditioning, self-taping, and on-camera acting. Our goal is to help you feel more comfortable in front of the camera, allowing you to trust your talent whether you’re in the studio or on location. We’ll be with you every step of the way, helping you focus on delivering your best performance. If you’re seeking a more audition-focused approach, just let us know when you apply!

  • We understand that sometimes life happens—whether it's a scheduling conflict or illness—and you may need to miss class with at least 24 hours' notice. In such cases, we offer make-up classes for actors who inform us in advance. However, we expect actors in our ongoing classes to prioritize attendance and make every effort to be present. If you have any questions about our make-up or payment policies, please click HERE for more details.

  • We recognise that community is key to an actor's success and well-being. By joining our Ongoing class, you’ll become part of a supportive network that fosters growth and development. At The Actors Workout, you’ll connect with a dynamic group of passionate, skilled artists who meet regularly, week after week. In today’s world, being part of a community of like-minded, driven actors is more valuable than ever.
